We called Lavatex® our pre-impregnated basalt.
Basalt is a kind of magmatic rock formed by the rapid cooling of the lava on the surface of a planet. It is the most common rock in the earth's crust. The properties of the basalt rock vary from the lava source, the cooling rate and the historical influence of the elements. High-quality fibers are produced from basalt deposits with a uniform chemical composition. In general, the continuous basalt fiber is a kind of green industrial material of the 21st. Century. It has good overall performance and high economic efficiency.
Why is Lavatex® better than fiberglass: Basalt fibers are a relatively new entry into fiber-reinforced polymers and structural composites. It has a similar chemical composition as glass fibers, but has better strength properties and, unlike most glass fibers, is very resistant to alkaline, acidic and salt attack. Basalt fabrics are typically used instead of glass fibers or carbon fibers and are ideal for applications requiring high mechanical strength, resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. Basalt fabric regularly exceeds standard E glass in demanding applications and have a comparable performance compared to special fibers such as carbon, chemically resistant glass and silica, but to a fraction of the costs.
